Time: 5am – 7:30pm
Weather: Sunny 73
I am not a morning person but getting up at the crack of dawn to ride a new coaster I made an exception. We arrived at the park around 5am and found GateKeeper already running. It was still dark and it looked great with LED’s on the rains and two red LED’s on the eagle’s eyes on the front of the rolling stock.
The front of the park loos so much better, but the trees in the rendering aren’t there, they are just saplings for now.
A short time to check in and we walked right up to the station and took our first ride as the sun was coming up.
A sight you may not see for a while
I think the right side end front is probably the best seat, but you try and see which one you like best.
The opening speeches were well done, although as a B&M representative was speaking Raptor roared to life downing out his speech. I wonder if the memo to not run rides at 9:15 was sent out. All the coaster clubs in attendance were mentioned during the speeches, while many clubs received deafening applause, a certain group of buzznuts received lackluster applause - not a good represenation. Also confirmed during the speeches were that Raptor and Millennium Force would be open later in the day!
CF really outdid themselves on this one. Complimentary breakfast and lunch,
one gatekeeper on ride photo and he very nice Gatekeeper overnight bag were very nice touches. I still do miss my home park in Aurora but the news that the former CEO Kinzel had stepped down from the Cedar Fair board made Thursday May 9th an extra wonderful day.
